What is Block I?

As one of the oldest and most prestigious student cheering sections in the nation, Block I creates a recognizable center for cheering in Memorial Stadium and allows for students to participate in all home football games.

Membership registration begins during spring semester and typically closes by the middle of July.

The Block I cheering section is located in the North endzone of Memorial Stadium and incorporates the center two sections of the student seating. The cheering section is best known for their loyalty to the football team and entertaining halftime card stunts, during which pictures are created by the 2,000 members in attendance.

What are the benefits of participating in Block I?

Aside from having some of the best seats in the house and being able to participate in the tradition of performing card stunts, Block I members receive a free t-shirt and become eligible to win hundreds of dollars in giveaways and free food. Members are rewarded with the opportunity to meet football team members and speak with Coach Beckman at pep rallies.

Additionally, members are invited to tailgate before every home game out in front of Memorial Stadium and are dually invited to participate in the watch parties that take place for the away games.

Lastly, loyal members receive the opportunity to travel along with the team on the Block I road trip. Block I members acquire road trip points throughout the season and those with the most points receive first priority in bus seating. Last year, Block I traveled to West Lafayette and watched our Fighting Illini take on the Purdue Boilermakers. The best part? Both the ticket and the travel expenses were paid-in-full by the Block I fund.

Block-I is planning another exciting trip for this season! Will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio to watch the Fighting Illini take on the Ohio State Buckeyes on November 3!
